Coward BN calls in cops to disperse NUBE picket

SEGAMAT (May 2, 2013): Barisan Nasional (BN) today called in the cops to disperse the National Union of Bank Employees (NUBE) picket here.
The Umno-led BN hooligans had yesterday deployed bus loads of “supporters” to try and disrupt NUBE’s Labour Day picketing yesterday.
Failing to create any impact for BN, today the police were called in to stop the picket at 1pm outside CIMB bank.
The police, including baton-armed Federal Reserve Unit men, told NUBE officials that they had been instructed by the higher ups to declare the picket illegal.
The 200-strong NUBE members then thanked the police and dispersed a noisy group of BN supporters standing about 30m away to observe.heduled for a third round of picketing outside Maybank this evening.
However, with the police latest stand, NUBE will consult their lawyers to determine the status of their right to peaceful assembly and whether to proceed with the picketing as planned.
Earlier, the picketers sang songs and chanted slogans calling on the people of Segamat to remove the useless caretaker Human Resources Minister S.Subramaniam.
“As a minister, he should be taking care of the welfare of workers. Instead, for the past five years, he has been undermining the workers, weakening and eroding our rights,” the NUBE official said in his address to the picketers.
“Remove Subramaniam so that a more capable man can look after workers. Long live workers,” he added.
Earlier, Johor PKR chairman Chua Jui Meng went on a house-to-house campaign trail to greet voters and deliver flyers in the Segamat commercial centre at 11am after a two-hour meeting in his Bandar Utama main Operations Centre.
He then made a short stop to check out the NUBE picket and continued with his campaign trail till 3pm.
Chua will this evening speak at a DAP ceramah in Kampung Abullah which will feature DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang.
