When the armed Sulu soldiers invaded Sabah, Umno quickly tried to do some damage control by using the Barisan Nasional (BN)-controlled media to spin news to blame Pakatan Rakyat (PR) de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim for the invasion.

News from the Philippines quoted Sulu leaders as saying they came to Sabah soon after Najib visited the Philippines and promised them land.
