AIR HITAM (Jan 5, 2013): Johor PKR
chairman Chua Jui Meng says Pakatan Rakyat (PR) is confident of eradicating
poverty within its first term as federal government.
“That
is the assurance of PR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim. The target is to raise
the household income of Malaysians with RM1,500 and below monthly to RM4,000,”
he added.
Speaking
in a Back To School bag presentation to poor students in Ledang PKR office this
morning, Chua said: “Anwar is internationally recognised as a competent finance
minister. In the nine years as finance minister from 1990 to 1998, he managed
to achieve six consecutive surplus budgets from 1993 to 1998.
“For
the next 14 consecutive years, from 1999 to 2012, under Mahathir Mohamad,
Abdullah Badawi and Najib Abdul Razak, it was budget deficits all the way.
“Federal
debts rose sharply from RM112 billion in 1999 to RM484 billion last year,” Chua
said.
“The
international recognition of Anwar as the best finance minister in the world is
based on his track record. Anwar’s proposed slew of people-centric policies,
featuring complementary fiscal measures, will help realise poverty
eradication,” he added.
Chua
said all the proposed measures had been outlined in PR’s Buku Jingga (Orange Book) and in its alternative Budget 2013.
He
urged the people to go for a change in the federal government to enable Anwar
and PR to implement all the policies aimed at making Malaysia a dynamic and
progressive nation.
“Within
24 hours upon the swearing-in of Anwar as prime minister, he will announce a reduction
in the retail price of fuel.
“This
will trigger a domino effect and bring down the prices of essentials and
services due to cheaper transport costs,” Chua said.
