SKUDAI (Feb 13, 2013): About 70 Malay families in Kampung Laut have received eviction notices from the Johor state government.
Classifying them as squatters, they have been ordered to be relocated to flats in Taman Impian Emas.
None of them want to move as they have resided in the village since 1973.
Johor PKR chairman Chua Jui Meng today made an unscheduled and surprise visit to check out the plight of the villagers.
The villagers told Chua that they had attended a relocation briefing on Feb 3, 2013, after receiving a notice dated Jan 30, 2013, from the state housing division.
Chua said it was most unfair to evict the villagers without adequate compensation from their houses which they had built and stayed for about 40 years.
He told the villagers that the Johor Keadilan Legal Bureau would extend free legal service to help them seek justice.
